Keeping Your Cool When the Conversation Gets Hot
Stop the trial and error communication method! You’ve been there, right? You spoke too soon and said something that was either unintended or misunderstood. Or perhaps you were blindsided by an argumentative or combative co-worker or employee and before you knew it, your emotions got the better of you and you said something you regretted later. Unfortunately, conflict almost always triggers an emotional response. Anger, frustration, and stress can take control of your response and lead you to negative communications that make the conflict worse rather than better. And, most of us never learned the essential communication skills we need to speak so we are heard and understood – communication skills that help you to get your point across with tact and confidence. Instead, we bumble along doing the best that we can, trying many different communication “strategies” that often end with us eating our words or trying to put out the fire that resulted from the conversation. And without the right communication principles, your relationships, productivity and overall success will continue to suffer. The good news is that you can learn better, more effective responses and become a truly successful communicator! Join Guy Harris for 60 minutes and say good-bye to misunderstandings and miscommunications. Guy will help you become more aware of your language and how it is affecting your relationships. He’ll also teach you communication principles to make your messages more powerful and persuasive and show you how to speak so that you move others from anger to resolution. In just 60 minutes, you will learn: - What triggers negative emotions
- Three steps you can take to get your emotions under control
- A five step model for communicating effectively when you are stressed
- A practical model for communicating assertively without becoming aggressive
