The Secret to Productivity: Why Every Leaders Needs a Closed Door Policy to Reveal Greater Productivity in Every Day

“I have an open-door policy.”

As a leader, you’ve most likely heard (and maybe even used) this leadership metaphor.

And while the intentions are good, an open-door policy is actually stealing large chunks of your time, productivity and success as a leader.

Should you make yourself accessible and available to your team? Yes, of course, but there need to be boundaries and it can’t be at everyone’s whim and leisure.

Think about it: when was the last time someone popped their head in the door, interrupting your thinking and flow of work, with a question that was truly an emergency?

How many of those questions could wait 15 minutes, 2 hours or until tomorrow?

While we all believe we can multi-task, that is actually a misnomer. The constant interruptions of non-stop emails, instant messages and barrage of questions and challenges from an employee “stopping by”, sap our productivity and waste hours of our day.

This doesn’t mean that access, availability and openness don’t matter — far to the contrary! Leaders need to be accessible, available and open to conversations. They need to provide feedback and coaching – without it, their effectiveness and value as a leader is severely limited.

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

How a Closed-Door Policy Can Reveal Greater Productivity

The Closed-door policy is about putting some discipline and intentionality into your workday for creating better control of your time and skyrocketing your productivity.

Whether you use office hours, a planned time to meet with team members, or devise some other approach – the goal of the closed-door policy is to create space for everyone to have greater productivity because there are fewer avoidable interruptions.

Join us Tuesday, December 13, 2016 for this radical new webinar, presented by Kevin Eikenberry, best-selling author and Chief Potential Officer of The Kevin Eikenberry Group. In 60 minutes, he’ll explain why an open-door policy is squashing your productivity and effectiveness, and how you can implement a closed-door policy that diminishes interruptions but still fosters trust, encourages availability and improves your overall workplace environment.

In this webinar, you’ll also learn:

  • What a “closed-door” policy is, and how to implement one in your team and organization
  • How to create clearer, more accurate expectations with your team.
  • How leaders can impact (and lower) interruptions.
  • How to differentiate between important versus urgent work
  • And much more!

The door is just a metaphor – leaders must lead and coaches must coach. You cannot be an effective leader if your door is always closed and you are hiding from your team. But with the tips and lessons from this powerful webinar, you’ll learn how a closed-door policy can help you to create boundaries, set expectations, and make choices that create space for everyone to have greater productivity with fewer interruptions.
